CCCU
Consortium for Clean Coal Utilization

The consortium's mission is to be a resource to industry for the advancement of technologies that foster clean utilization of coal by creating an international partnership between universities, industries, foundations, and government organizations. The consortium is under the umbrella of the International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability, I-CARES. Electricity generation world-wide is dominated by coal: 40% worldwide and 50% in the U.S. Almost one-third
of the anthropogenically-derived carbon dioxide comes from the combustion of coal. Research at the CCCU
focuses on developing technologies to reduce CO2 emissions from coal-burning power plants.
